This Privacy Policy describes how EchoVCast ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the EchoVCast desktop application ("Software") and website at echovcast.com ("Website"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data responsibly.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for account authentication, email verification, and password reset.
  • Password — stored as a one-way bcrypt hash. We cannot see or recover your password.
  • License key — links your account to your subscription.

Device Information

When you log in from the desktop application, we collect:

  • Hardware identifier (HWID) — a SHA-256 hash derived from your computer's hardware identifiers. This is used to enforce device limits (2 devices per license). We cannot reverse this hash to identify your specific hardware.
  • Device name — your computer's hostname, used to help you identify your devices in the account dashboard.

Usage Data

When you use the translation feature, we log:

  • Translation direction (e.g., English to Japanese)
  • Character counts of input and output text
  • Translation response time
  • Timestamp

This data is used for service monitoring and to detect abuse. We do not log or store the actual text content of your transcriptions or translations.

Audio Data

Speech recognition runs entirely on your local device. Your audio is never sent to our servers. Only the transcribed text is sent for translation, and it is not stored.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and maintain the translation service.
  • To authenticate your account and manage your subscription.
  • To enforce license and device limits.
  • To send transactional emails (verification, password reset).
  • To monitor service health and detect abuse.

We do not use your information for advertising or marketing purposes. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate EchoVCast:

  • DeepInfra — processes translation requests. The transcribed text (not audio) is sent to DeepInfra's servers for translation and is subject to DeepInfra's privacy policy. We do not store the text on our servers.
  • LemonSqueezy — handles payment processing and subscription management. Payment information (credit card, billing address) is collected and stored by LemonSqueezy, not by us. See LemonSqueezy's privacy policy.
  • Resend — sends transactional emails (verification, password reset) on our behalf.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your account data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on a secured server. We implement the following security measures:

  • All connections are encrypted with TLS (HTTPS).
  • Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and cannot be recovered.
  • Hardware identifiers are stored as irreversible SHA-256 hashes.
  • Session tokens are generated using cryptographically secure random generators.
  • The database is isolated on a private network and not publicly accessible.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Usage logs (translation counts, not content) are retained for service monitoring purposes. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, please contact us at support@echovcast.com.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your account and data.
  • Manage your registered devices through the website or desktop application.

8. Cookies

The Website uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and to store your language preference. These cookies are strictly necessary for site functionality and contain no tracking or advertising data. Session cookies are set as httponly and secure, and expire after 24 hours. The language preference cookie stores your selected display language.

9. Children's Privacy

EchoVCast is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Software or Website after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
